2014 – A Good Year for Yorkshire?

Following news in December 2013 that Yorkshire and Humber house sales were at their highest in almost six years (The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, UK Residential Market Survey, Dec 2013), there is more good news predicted for house prices and house sales across the region for 2014.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) estimates that all parts of the UK “should see” home prices rise and expects the number of transactions to increase to 1.2 million in 2014, but warns that this is still short of the 1.67 million sales seen back in 2006.  Predictions are that property prices in Yorkshire are expected to rise by 7% over the coming year and those in the North East by 5%.

A recent RICS survey has shown a rise in the number of buyers looking to purchase properties, resulting in new housing stock being in high demand and so it is definitely a good time to proceed to the market if you are considering a move.

There is much to celebrate in the region in 2014, with excitement building for the Stage 1 Tour de France Grand Depart 2014, which will be winding its way through some of the most beautiful parts of the County in July.  This will be bringing with it millions of visitors and huge media attention – and hopefully many prospective buyers too!

Given also that Lonely Planet have just listed Yorkshire as one of the Top Three places in the world to visit in 2014, we think that it’s a pretty exciting place to be right now!
