The Farming and Forestry Improvement Scheme (FFIS) is a grant scheme set within the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) that aims to help foresters, farmers, farming contractors, woodland owners and horticultural businesses in England. Through focused investment the scheme intends to help small businesses improve their competitive position within their market.
Following on from an overwhelming response to the second round of the scheme, which saw over 2,200 applicants awarded a share of almost £19 million, the third phase will direct investment to people willing to meet one or more of the following objectives:-
With a grant of up to 50% of ‘eligible costs’ to a maximum of £35,000, this scheme could help to push forward a project which has been put on hold for the time being.
Eligible items which will attract grant funding range from rainwater harvesting improvements to livestock handling facilities and many in between. As with all government backed grant schemes there are hoops to jump through and grants will not be awarded for projects attempting to fund direct replacements, standard equipment or something that is a legislative requirement.
Those who have used the FFIS scheme previously are not excluded from the third tranche, however during the appraisal process priority will be given to applicants who have not already been offered or received grant funding.
Please be aware that applications close on 4th April 2014 and therefore if you are thinking of applying, time is of the essence!
For further information on how you can benefit from the latest FFIS scheme and help with your application, please contact Phil Scott-Priestley or John Wallis at the GSC Grays Leyburn Office, tel: 01969 600120.
