Station House

Historic Richmond station house comes to market

Station House, an historic Grade II listed stunning detached property in the Georgian market town of Richmond at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, has come to market with a guide price of £995,000.

Richmond has a landmark Norman castle whose ruins provide one of the many views from Station House, a four bedroom home built for George Hudson – who was known known as “The Railway King” – for his North of England Railway.

Lizzie Tate, Property Agent at GSC Grays, said “Station House occupies a prime position in Richmond and has been beautifully enhanced by the current vendor. The house blends historic charm with modern living while retaining many original features. The self-contained annexe adds flexibility, while the well maintained landscaped gardens create a great outdoor space. The property offers stunning views of the Castle, Richmond town, and the surrounding landscape, with easy access to walks along the River Swale.”

Station House was built around 1846 close to Richmond Station and is one of an important surviving group of station buildings and has been beautifully preserved. It retains many character features including period fireplaces, timber shutters, various alcoves, quoined surrounds to the mullion windows, original doors, sash windows and a stone façade.

The house has four bedrooms and also features a self-contained bedroom above the garaging, which has the opportunity to provide multi-generational living, or a successful business outlet. There is a private access to the annexe which includes a kitchen area, a double bedroom, with dual aspect and a shower room.

There are three reception rooms showcasing the numerous period features while an existing ground floor shower room offers the flexibility to create ground floor bedroom accommodation.

The plot extends to approximately 0.61 acres, with formal landscaped gardens, mainly laid to lawn, with well stocked flower beds and borders. There is also a summer house within the garden and raised vegetable beds along with a rainwater collection system.

Richmond has excellent links to both the A1 (M) and A66 and offers a wide range of walks and bridleways, as well as being closely situated to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The nearby towns of Darlington and Northallerton have East Coast mainline railway stations with regular connections to London, Newcastle, Edinburgh, and Durham. The nearest airport, Durham Tees Valley, offers an increasing number of domestic and international flights.

Station House is currently on the market with GSC Grays Richmond office with a guide price of £995,000. Tel 01748 897630.
