Graduate Programme 2020

Jasmin Leetham

“After a rewarding placement year in 2018/19 with the Valuations and Surveys department at GSC Grays, I was delighted to be offered a permanent Graduate position. There was no hesitation when accepting the role as I had already experienced what the company had to offer and knew I would be re-joining a great team and progressive company.

Since my return, I have successfully passed both my APC and the CAAV examinations, combining all I learnt in my final year of University and the diverse experience I have gained at GSC Grays. The Directors and other colleagues take an active role in the professional development of both placement students and graduates. With APC assessors within the company and a comprehensive support programme in place, there is always help available.

Since becoming fully qualified I have been promoted to Senior Surveyor and broadened my experience and now provide general profession advice to new and existing clients in the south of our region, with a focus on Planning & Development and Energy.

Overall, I can whole-heartedly recommend GSC Grays as a great company to work for, both as a placement student and a graduate.”

Farm Business Graduate 2021

Jake Nixon

“Following the conclusion of my studies at the Royal Agricultural University in 2021, I returned north to join GSC Grays as a Graduate Farm Business Consultant in the July of that year.

Since joining the Farm Business Department at GSC Grays, my knowledge and understanding of farm business management and finances have developed significantly. From the outset I was involved in a wide range of work, from day-to-day farm business consultancy and financial monitoring to more significant budgeting exercises supporting lending requests for the likes of greenfield poultry units and dairy herd expansions.

Whilst I joined the company with the intention of focusing largely on working with dairy clients, I have also had opportunities to diversify my work, particularly into the poultry sector and through collaboration with the Environmental & Sustainability department.

The opportunities given to me have developed my skills and abilities significantly and I have been promoted twice – most recently to Senior Farm Business Consultant. I look forward to building my career further with GSC Grays.”

Graduate Land Agent 2022

Henry Gray

“I joined GSC Grays in the summer of 2022 after graduating from The Royal Agricultural University at Cirencester. The structured nature of the GSC Grays training programme was particularly appealing to me when applying for graduate roles.

Since starting, I have found staff and Directors within the company to be supportive and encouraging in helping me through the APC process. With the internal expertise, the self-help groups, Q&A sessions, graduate farm training days and mentoring system, I am receiving the necessary support and experience for my chosen competencies.

In addition, my workplace confidence continues to grow. Two years in the Estate Management and Sporting team has given me a unique insight into the challenges of the day-to-day management of upland estates. This has helped me to learn and develop, whilst providing the personal and dynamic service to our clients that GSC Grays aspires to deliver.

There are plenty of social events at GSC Grays, offering opportunities to meet with fellow graduates and colleagues from other offices in a more relaxed setting – there is something for everyone. I would highly recommend that any graduates looking for a career in Land Agency to apply for a role at GSC Grays – you will feel supported and valued, which I feel is important in the current climate.”

Graduate Land Agent 2022

Charlotte Clayton

“I joined GSC Grays as a Graduate Land Agent in September 2022 after graduating from Harper Adams University.

I am based at the Boroughbridge office working within the Estate Management department. My day-to-day role is varied, assisting with the management of several estates across south Yorkshire, as well as undertaking general professional work for private clients. The diverse nature of the work I undertake has allowed me to build knowledge and experience in a multitude of areas. I have assisted with compensation claims for road schemes and water pipelines, tenancy matters, residential and agricultural lettings, property management, BPS claims, CSS applications, feasibility studies and so much more.

The support provided through the company training sessions and structured mentoring programme has placed me in a strong position to obtain my professional accreditations. Engaging with the support programme has given me the confidence to sit my CAAV examinations in Autumn 2023, before looking at undertaking my Assessment of Professional Competence to become a Chartered Surveyor.

I am excited to see what lies ahead.”

Farm Business Graduate 2022

Lauren Dennison

“Having graduated from Newcastle University in 2022 I decided to dive straight into work securing the role of Graduate Farm Business Consultant with GSC Grays.

The company has been extremely welcoming and supportive during my two years at GSC Grays. During my time I have gained valuable experience having been involved with tasks such as farm budgeting, business planning and utilisation of environmental land management schemes, working both independently and as part of the wider Farm Business team.

I was lucky enough to join at the very start of the Future Farming Resilience Fund project, which has been an exciting time for the company and continues to give me the opportunity to provide support and guidance to individual farm businesses during this evolutionary period for British agriculture.

I look forward to expanding my knowledge and experience further through GSC Grays and by gaining additional professional qualifications.”

Farm Business Graduate 2023

Jennifer Buckle

“After gaining a degree in Agri-Business Management from Newcastle University in 2023, I joined GSC Grays as a Graduate Farm Business Consultant in September of that year.

In my first year in the role, I have greatly developed my knowledge and understanding of all aspects of farm businesses. I am involved in a wide range of work for clients in almost all sectors of the farming industry, both as part of the wider Farm Business team and individually.

I am currently involved in producing whole farm budgets and business plans to present to lenders, delivering carbon audits, and evaluating how environmental schemes may be able to benefit farm businesses as just three examples. Alongside this, I am involved with larger ongoing projects such as a Cost of Production analysis for a large beef production scheme, which has been an extremely interesting project to be part of.

This role has presented me with significant opportunities to develop both my written reporting work and skills such as presenting to audiences and holding effective client meetings, which has been of great value.

My first year has been extremely enjoyable, interesting, and has provided great learning opportunities. As I enter my second year with GSC Grays I look forward to continuing to build my skills, especially focusing on the business-focused and financial elements of consultancy work.”

Farm Business Graduate 2024

Angus Cumming

“Having graduated from Newcastle University in 2024 I joined GSC Grays as a Graduate Farm Business Consultant in the July of the same year.

In the short time since joining I have been able to immerse myself in a whole range of tasks from cashflows and budgeting to contract farming agreements and SFI plans.  I have been fortunate enough to be a part of the new FCAP project, delivering carbon audits to farmers in the Northumberland National Park. This has allowed me to expand my skills and knowledge into an area I had little exposure to before starting my role.

Moving forward I am keen to expand my knowledge further in all aspects of farm consultancy, and progress towards a number of professional qualifications recognised within the industry.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time so far at GSC Grays and look forward to this continuing into the future.”

WORK HARD, PLAY HARD!

There are many opportunities to take part in staff socials, whether as part of a company-wide event, or organised by individual offices and/or teams.

We also have monthly ‘Wellness Wednesdays’ which offer a further opportunity for staff to get together, away from the screen to take part in activities unrelated to our daily work.
